UPDATE: Only 2 votes separate Gray, Kezer in mayoral election

AMESBURY – The Amesbury mayoral race just got tighter after updated figures provided by the City Clerk’s office showed Ken Gray ahead of Mayor Thatcher Kezer by only two votes.

The unofficial totals posted on the city website this morning put Gray at 2,092 votes and Kezer at 2,090 votes. Kezer indicated that he would seek a recount after the initial results were read at the Amesbury High School cafeteria, and it’s unclear at this point how long that process would take.

The first tally released last night showed Gray winning with 2,088 votes to Kezer's 2,080, a slim 8-vote margin of victory.

After the electronic tally of votes was completed, election clerks counted ballots that did not initially register. Those votes were handcounted. Kezer tallied an additional 10 votes, while Gray won another 4 votes. That trimmed Gray's lead to just 2 votes.

City Clerk Bonnijo Kitchin was unable to provide further information on the results and said she would be releasing more info as the day goes on.

The Daily News will have more on this story as it develops.
