NEWBURYPORT -- A body believed to be 22-year-old Marinna Khon has been found in the mouth of the Merrimack River this morning.
Khon, of Lynn, has been missing since last Tuesday, May 25, when she was swept into the Merrimack River from a sand bar off Plum Island.
The body was found near the mouth of the Merrimack River by two fishermen this morning, according to the District Attoryney's office. The discovery was made not far from where she first disappeared.
The fishermen called 911 and the Coast Guard immediatley dispatched a 25-foot boat to retreive the body, presumed to be the missing Lynn woman.
Her body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston, where a positive identification will be made.
Nine days ago, Khon and seven friends were swept from a sandbar off Plum Island Point and into the Merrimack River by the fast-rising, incoming tide. The seven others were rescued, but Khon, a recent Syracuse University graduate, was not found.
State and local police, as well as the Newburyport Harbormaster, have remained vigilant in looking for her body.
