The Lookout: Short plays spotlighted in Got Group?

The playwrights, actors and directors of Group return to The Actors Studio this weekend with another assortment of plays.

Got Group? features seven short pieces, with performances tomorrow and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.

In “Head of Household” by Cynthia Arsenault, a census taker tries to collect information from a fugitive. “Hope Springs a Leak,” also by Arsenault, riffs on a couple returning from a marriage retreat. “Storytime” by Kathy Isbell conjures up “a rose by any other name,” while “Dinner Time” by Ray Arsenault is about a wife confronting her husband with an ominous ultimatum. In another play by Arsenault, “Epilogue,” a man wonders if he is dreaming up the woman. “Janey Succumbs to Polar Madness” by Mike Kimball is about two female scientists stationed in tight quarters over six months of Alaskan winter, and “Tea With Cocoa” by Jack Kimball is the story of two longtime friends who meet for tea and reality-bending conversation.

Additionally, a staged reading of a full-length play, “Zoltan” by Josh Faigen, will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. In “Zoltan,” Victor dislikes Music of the Ductworks, Daisy has another load in the dryer and Ed reads meters with passion.

Tickets for the evening shows are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. There is no additional charge to see “Zoltan,” but separate reservations are required.

The Actors Studio is located in the Tannery, 50 Water St., Newburyport. For tickets or more information, visit www.brownpapertickets.com or call 978-465-1229.
