The Lookout: Short plays spotlighted in Got Group?


The duo covers a variety of pop, rock, soul, R&B and Motown classics.

New exhibit opening at Firehouse

A solo exhibit of new work by painter Neil Wilkins opens in the gallery at the Firehouse Center for the Arts on Wednesday.

“Formations” features bright and precise paintings inspired by the microscopic view of organic matter. They will be on display on Wednesdays through Sundays until July 28.

An artist’s reception will be held Sunday, July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the gallery, Market Square, Newburyport.

Art students show off their work

Photographs by four Triton High School students are on display and for sale through August at the Newbury Town Library.

With the guidance of art teacher Josh Andrews, Matilda Nichols, Chris Beal, Chelsea Mansur and Kam Mitchel have spent the last year photographing local subjects. They selected their 10 best works for this show.

The exhibit may be viewed on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library, 0 Lunt St., Byfield.

Buy books to help cats

The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society of Salisbury will hold a fundraiser tonight from 6 to 8. Twenty percent of the proceeds of all sales at The Book Rack in downtown Newburyport will be donated to the nonprofit organization.

Programs for middle and high school artists

Young artists can now sign up for July classes at the Newburyport Art Association.

Art portfolio coaching is designed to help high school juniors and seniors applying to art colleges and university programs. The series of seminars will be held every Tuesday from July 2 through 30, with the last session including a group critique led by visitors from local programs. The cost is $80 for members and $90 for nonmembers.
