Salisbury firefighter dies after accident

Lt. Tim Oliveira was 27-year department veteran

SALISBURY -- Salisbury fire Lt. Tim Oliveira, who was critically injured Friday afternoon while repairing a department vehicle at fire headquarters, passed away this afternoon.

The well-respected and dedicated firefighter had worked for the department for 27 years,

Oliveira, 53, of Salisbury was repairing a vehicle behind the Lafayette Street station Friday afternoon when a jack slipped, pinning him under the vehicle. He was airlifted to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston following the accident.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Pam and his extended family that

truly includes members of the Salisbury Fire Department, including Fire

Chief Richard Souliotis," Salisbury Deputy Fire Chief Steven LeSage said.

The Salisbury Fire Department requests that the family’s privacy be

respected during this time of mourning. Funeral arrangements will be

announced when they are finalized.



State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan said, “Lt. Oliveira was carrying out

his duties when this tragic accident occurred and snuffed the life of a

dedicated firefighter.”
