Vacant Amesbury restaurant's roof collapses

AMESBURY — Sections of the roof at a vacant Chinese restaurant on Route 110 collapsed today.

For decades the restaurant had operated as the Tiki Lau, more recently as the Weiloon Cafe. The 6,500-square-foot, pitched-roofed building has been unoccupied for the past six years..

The sound of the collapse could he heard up to 1/4 mile away. The rear section of roof, which faces Interstate 495, had fallen in, while the front section that faces the parking lot and Macy Street (Route 110) appeared intact.

Firefighters were on the scene, assessing the damage.

Town assessors record list the owner as Richard Leong; the building is assessed at $343,000.

The Daily News will publish more information as it becomes available.
