Four arrested after chase through West Newbury

Four people are under arrest and will be arraigned today after they were chased in a stolen car from West Newbury, through Groveland and into Haverhill before being stopped on Lowell Avenue near Chunky's Cinema Pub around 1:30 a.m.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Steven Dearborn, 47, of 8 Lancaster St., Cambridge, has been charged with operating after suspension, operating to endanger, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property, a car.

He also had an outstanding warrant out of Boston for unarmed robbery, police said.

Sean O'Shea, 40, of 111 H St., South Boston, was charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. The other two people in the car, John Johnson, 47, of 101 Highland Ave., Somerville, and Madeline Osborne, 51, of 7 Maine Ave., Apt. 2, Somerville, were charged with receiving stolen property.

According to Groveland police, the incident started in West Newbury when police there attempted to stop the car. The vehicle evaded police and apparently ended up in Groveland, where police there found the vehicle and also attempted to pull it over on a failure to stop charge. When police ran the plates, they discovered the car had been stolen.

The driver then sped through town, crossing over the Route 113 bridge and going west on Groveland Street, eventually passing the Haverhill police station on Bailey Boulevard.

Police continued the chase on Essex Street, to Route 97, then onto Lowell Avenue. The car eventually stopped at the Chunky's Cinema Pub at 371 Lowell Ave. near I-495.

The driver and one of the passengers attempted to flee, but were tackled to the ground and arrested.
