Skip's Country Store in Rowley robbed a second time

ROWLEY — Police are reporting that Skip's Country Store on Route 133 was robbed tonight for the second time in a little more than a month.

Police are searching for one man who reportedly robbed the convenience store at 801 Haverhill St. around 7:30 p.m.

The entire cash register containing $400 was reported taken, then left behind on the ground outside the store, police said. Police do not believe a weapon was involved. The suspect reportedly fled in a four-door black sedan on Route 133 heading toward Georgetown, police said.

The robbery follows an armed holdup of the store on Sept, 21. Police are still searching for the robber in that holdup, which occurred just before 8 p.m. Longtime clerk SK M. Ahmad was injured in that incident when he fought back with his hands to deflect the knife attack. His hands were severely sliced, and he suffered a series of blows.

In that robbery, the suspect rushed behind the front counter and brandished what the clerk called a folding knife that was at least 6 inches long. The robber then demanded all of the clerk's money, including everything in the lottery safe. He left with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Police have said the robbery is similar to two subsequent ones in Georgetown and Ipswich.

On Sept. 29, eight days after Skip's was robbed the first time, a man armed with a knife robbed Georgetown Liquor Store on Route 133 in Georgetown. The suspect, who pulled a utility knife on the store's two employees and threatened to kill them, grabbed the cash in the register before fleeing the store at 103 East Main St. about 8:50 p.m. The liquor store is less than 3 miles away from Skip's.

On Oct. 9, the Cumberland Farms on Central Street in neighboring Ipswich was robbed. In Ipswich, the man came behind the counter, but no weapon was shown. The suspect threatened to kill the clerk before leaving in a black hatchback sedan with a dark-haired woman with her hair in a ponytail.
