AMESBURY – Mayor Thatcher Kezer has conceded the Amesbury mayoral election to Ken Gray, announcing that he will not challenge the results of Thursday’s recount and will accept the results as final.

Gray edged out Kezer in Thursday’s recount by a slim margin of 2,094 to 2,091. Initially Kezer indicated he might seek a court challenge in regards to seven protested ballots that could have potentially swung the election, but after sitting down with his legal team to talk it over, he concluded that the odds of mounting a successful challenge were slim.

“After consultation with my recount attorneys, we have determined that the likely success of a change in the results is minimal,” Kezer said. “Therefore I have determined to accept the results of yesterday’s recount as final and congratulate Ken Gray on his election victory.”

Kezer said he will now work with Gray to ensure a successful transition into office with the hopes of giving him the best opportunity to lead Amesbury into the future. He also thanked all of the city employees he’s worked with over the years and said he hopes to make the most of his remaining time in office.
