Mulqueen chosen as next Pentucket superintendent

WEST NEWBURY — The Pentucket Regional School Committee has tapped Jeffrey Mulqueen to take over the district helm when Paul Livingston retires in June.

Chairwoman Chris Reading reported that Mulqueen, who currently works as chief academic officer for the Worcester public school system, said he was "very excited about the decision" when reached by phone after the vote last night.

After Mulqueen bested runner-up Brooke Clenchy of Winchendon with a 5 to 4 vote, Reading asked for and received a consensus vote to work with and support the new superintendent. The committee then formed a subcommittee to start the contract negotiation process meet next week.

Chris Wile, who chaired the superintendent's selection committee, said it was "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a candidate like this apply to this district. While the board agreed all four candidates were strong, Wile called Mulqueen "one of the most impressive people I've ever met."

The other finalists were Justin Bartholomew, Pittsboro, N.C., and Richard Langlois of Saugus schools.
