Suspect arrested in robbery of Sovereign Bank in Seabrook

SEABROOK — A man who allegedly robbed the Sovereign Bank on Route 1 in Seabrook Monday afternoon is under arrest.

Police arrested the suspect following a chase that traveled into Salisbury.

Police said after Salisbury officer Steven Sforza lost the suspect in traffic, Amesbury Sgt. William Scholtz responded, stopping the suspect on Congress Street near Bartlett Farm, not far from the Amesbury line.

Police said the suspect passed a note demanding money to a bank teller during the robbery, which occurred at about 3:20 p.m.

Police did not immediately release the suspect's name.

This is the second robbery this year at the Sovereign Bank branch at 489 Lafayette Road. A Gloucester man was indicted in connection with a January robbery at the bank.
