Police detain Texas woman in death of boy found in Maine

CHELMSFORD — A Texas woman believed to be the mother of the boy found dead Saturday in South Berwick, Maine, is being detained by state police in Concord, according to sources.

The woman was brought to the state police barracks from a rest area on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford this morning. A Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck was towed from the rest area and taken to the state police barracks in Danvers.

Police in South Berwick have been attempting to identify the young boy, estimated to be between 4 and 6 years old that was found on the side of a back road in that community on Saturday.

A witness told police a blue pickup truck believed to have been driven by a woman was seen near where the body was found and that the truck may have had a Navy insignia on the license plate.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has sent investigators to military installations in the Northeast in hopes of being able to identify the body.

Investigators have even released pictures of the sneakers the boy was wearing which appeared to be brand new, and published reports say the boy was well-groomed and taken care of.

No cause of death has been released.
