Newbury voters defeated a $950,000 property tax increase in Tuesday's election by a margin of 1,319 to 1,055. In the four-way race for selectmen, they reelected incumbent Joe Story. David Mountain was also elected selectman.
Voters in Salisbury reelected incumbent Selectman Fred Knowles to office in Tuesday's election. Knowles will return for a three-year term, beating challenger Ron Christ, 498-248.
In Rowley, voters rejected a $130,000 Proposition 2 1/2 tax override 456-392. They also rejected a proposal to change the treasurer's position from an elected to an appointed position. In the race for cemetery commissioner, Jack Cook unseated incumbent Stuart Dalzell Jr., 539-259.
Voters in all three towns also cast ballots for two contested races for Triton Regional School Committee. They elected Jane Purinton as Salisbury member, and reelected Lane Bourn as Rowley member. Newbury member Dina Sullivan faced no challengers.
