NEWBURYPORT — Local and state police units are canvassing the downtown area for a man in his 20s who they say robbed TD Bank at 51 State St. around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
City Marshal Thomas Howard said the suspect passed a note to a bank employee saying he had a weapon and demanded money. After the employee handed him an unknown amount of money, the suspect exited the building and took a right onto State Street heading toward Water Street.
A surveillance camera and video captured clean images of the suspect, described by Howard as 5 foot 7 inches tall, 20 to 25 years old and wearing a navy blue shirt, red baseball cap and jeans.
A note taped to the front entrance of the State Street TD Bank branch announced the bank was closed.
