Kezer is top vote-getter in preliminary election

AMESBURY - Mayor Thatcher Kezer won the most votes in the three-man preliminary runoff for mayor Tuesday night, winning 53 percent of the vote.

Coming in second was political newcomer Ted Semesnyei, with 38 percent of the vote. Jim Thivierge placed third, with 9 percent of the vote, knocking him out of contention.

Kezer and Semesnyei will face off in the Nov. 8 general election. They are vying for a two-year term as mayor of Amesbury.

Of the 10,877 registered voters in town, only 769, or about 7 percent, cast ballots. The unofficial vote tallies were Kezer 409, Semesnyei 289, and Thivierge 70. There was one write-in vote.
