Sustainable business seminar tomorrow
Sustainability and the Supply Chain 1.0, the next session in the Newburyport CleanTech Center's ongoing seminar series on the benefits of a sustainable business approach for local business leaders, will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Newburyport CleanTech Center on 10 Mulliken Way in the Industrial Park. The event, another collaboration with Sustainserve, is free, open to the public and includes a continental breakfast.
Sustainserv's Matt Gardner will review a representative case study of how one particular firm addressed supply-chain requirements. Following his presentation, local business leader Rod L'Italien, founder of Circle Finishing, a metal finisher in Newburyport's Industrial Park, will talk about how sustainability management has influenced his business processes.

St. Arnault appointed to Mass. Realtors' position
Steven St. Arnault, a Realtor with Stone Ridge Properties in Newburyport, has been appointed vice president of government affairs for the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
As vice president for government affairs, St. Arnault is responsible for coordinating the initiatives of the MAR business plan relative to public policy issues, grass-roots organizational efforts, and legislative and political action activities of the association. In addition, he will act as a liaison between leadership and all work groups formed under the MAR government affairs umbrella.
He automatically becomes a member of the MAR Executive Committee and Board of Directors as a result of his appointment as a focus-area vice president.
St. Arnault has been a three-year member of the MAR Government Affairs Committee and is a member of the MAR Board of Directors.
On the local level, St. Arnault has served as the chairman of the Government Affairs Committee for that past three years. He has been a Realtor since 2005.
The Sloan Consortium announces Ives as COO
The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C), an association of individuals, institutions and organizations of higher education engaged in online learning, announced an important leadership change. Board of directors president Meg Benke announced the promotion of associate director Kathleen Ives to chief operating officer for the organization.
In her current role as associate director, Ives directed the launch of Sloan-C's highly successful workshops, as well as other certificate programs and many other Sloan-C initiatives, including the establishment of the Sloan-C Institute.
She has extensive management and marketing experience. Previously she served as executive vice president and COO of The Kelsey Group, a market research and consulting firm specializing in online local media and mobile advertising, and was managing director of Electronic Services at Verizon. Ives holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix and teaches online.
Ives has worked in online technology for over 20 years.
Funeral homes renew affiliation with Lofty Oaks
Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Homes of Amesbury, Merrimac and Haverhill and the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home of Newburyport have renewed their affiliation with Lofty Oaks Association, a N.H. organization dedicated to reforestation and conservation efforts in Massachusetts.
The firms arrange to have a tree planted for each service that they perform to provide a living memorial in honor of the deceased and to renew the forest life of Massachusetts.
The memorial trees are planted in the spring and fall. This program is part of a large endeavor, to restore the landscape with the eternal beauty of living trees.
After each service, close family members and friends are informed that the memorial tree has been arranged for by Paul C. Rogers, Jr. of the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Homes & Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home. When the tree has been planted, the designated people will receive a certificate of planting suitable for framing and keeping in the family's history.

Currier & Associates ranked in list of state's top 25 interior design firms
Currier & Associates, Inc., a full-service interior design firm specializing in creating enriching environments for living, healing and working, announced it was ranked in the top 25 of the largest interior design firms in Massachusetts.
The listing, which appeared in the February 17-23 issue of The Boston Business Journal, ranked interior design firms according to their billings within Massachusetts last year. Currier's billings for its 2011 Massachusetts projects of $727,200 resulted in this ranking.
Currier's major work last year included projects within health care and senior living markets as well as corporate and multi-family projects. Examples of completed projects include the Dudley Square Senior Housing for Central Boston Elder Services, the renovation of Jewish Geriatrics' skilled nursing center in Longmeadow, MA and Healthbridge Management's Essex Park in Beverly, MA.

Marquis joins TD Bank in Rowley
TD Bank has named Jeffrey R. Marquis the assistant vice president, store manager of the store located at 174 Newburyport Tpk. in Rowley. He is responsible for new business development, consumer and business lending, managing personnel and overseeing the day-to-day operations at the store serving customers throughout the region.
