Local ties for women's commission leader
Victoria A. Budson, the daughter-in-law of George McQuilken of Amesbury, has been elected to serve as chairwoman of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. Budson, of Wellesley, the founder and executive director of Harvard Kennedy School's Women and Public Policy Program, was appointed to the commission by Gov. Deval Patrick last year. The commission is an independent state agency created in 1998 to advance women of the commonwealth to full equality in all areas of life and to promote their rights and opportunities. It is comprised of 19 members who are appointed by the governor, Senate president, speaker of the House of Representatives and the Caucus of Women Legislators.
