Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center announces organizational changes
The Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, an organization working to stop domestic violence and assist abuse victims, announced that Jay McGovern has been chosen as its new director of development. McGovern assumed the post on Nov. 21, vacated by Elaine Cohen, who is retiring after serving for five years heading up the organization's development initiatives.
McGovern is a Newburyport resident and last served as the chief development officer for Boston MedFlight, and prior to that, he was vice president of development for Special Olympics Massachusetts. Having earned an MSW from Boston College, McGovern has served as a senior development officer for several nonprofits, including Children's Hospital Boston, Hallmark Health, Lawrence General Hospital and Anna Jaques Hospital, where he was vice president of Development twice, for a combined total of 14 years. At the Crisis Center, McGovern will be responsible for managing all aspects of the organization's fundraising, donor relations and community outreach efforts.
Each year, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center provides free support, counseling and education services to about 1,300 victims of domestic violence, including 150 children. The organization provides help through its 24-hour hotline, one-on-one counseling, emergency shelter, legal and court advocacy, community outreach programs and increasingly, it is viewed as a national leader in its successful efforts to identify those most at risk of being murdered and preventing that from happening.
