---- — Birke named director of Elder Law Attorney group

Atty. Margot G. Birke of Newburyport has been elected as a director of the Massachusetts chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys for 2013 and will also continue to lead the organization’s Program Committee.

In addition, Birke was named 2012 Member of the Year by the Massachusetts chapter of the NAELA for her dedication and commitment to the group. She was selected for the honor from the chapter’s 500-plus members at the annual meeting and was recognized for her advocacy and commitment to raising awareness of legal issues affecting seniors.

Coldwell grateful for ‘Pie in Sky’ support

The Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Newburyport is thanking the community for participating in its annual “Pie in the Sky” fundraiser to benefit Community Servings.

Linda Knight, sales manager of the Newburyport office, especially singled out Absolut Hair Salon in addition to all those in the area who supported Pie in the Sky. She said many clients of Community Servings will receive free nutritious meals at their homes because of the generosity.

Together, CBRB raised approximately $50,000, contributing to the $560,000 that was generated by this year’s Pie in the Sky campaign for Community Servings.

Community Servings is Eastern Massachusetts’ only free, home-delivered meals program for families and individuals with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses. The sales associates of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage encouraged neighbors throughout the community to purchase Thanksgiving pies that were prepared and donated by more than 150 of Greater Boston’s best restaurants and caterers. For every pie sold, Community Servings will be able to feed one client for five days.

Rosenbaum volunteering at Housing Court

Atty. Stephen A. Rosenbaum attended Landlord-Tenant Practice Training at the Northeast Housing Court with Judge David Kerman on Dec. 3. As a result of that training, Rosenbaum is volunteering at the Housing Court Session in Salem this month, providing pro-bono services to individuals and families in need of help at the Housing Court. Roberts joins Keller Williams

Laura Rizzari Roberts has joined Keller Williams as a Realtor-associate in the Newburyport and Topsfield offices serving the North Shore and Merrimack Valley. Roberts is involved with home sales, buyer agency and rentals. She has spent the past 14 years as owner/operator of a home-based business and has lived in Newburyport for more than 20 years. She is a member of Ould Newbury Golf Club, the Newburyport Art Association and the First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist. She is also the former chairwoman of the Newburyport Harbor Commission. She has two children, Jamie and Evan Roberts.

Free tax and financial planning seminar

A tax and financial planning seminar for comedians and others who work in creative fields will take place at on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Winner’s Circle, 211 Elm St., Salisbury. The seminar will be led by Rick Spencer, a financial advisor and tax preparer with more than 20 years of experience. Farrell becomes partner at firm

Jonathan B. Farrell of Salisbury has become a partner at DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP (DGC), a CPA and business consulting firm, effective Jan. 1.

Farrell, a member of DGC’s Real Estate Group, has more than 17 years of experience in partnership and real estate taxation. His areas of expertise include tax planning, consulting and compliance in the real estate, private equity and hospitality industries. He has extensive experience advising clients on the structuring of partnership and real estate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, taxable and non-taxable dispositions of property, lease planning and exit strategies for owners.

He received his bachelor of science in accountancy from Bentley College in Walthan. He lives in Salisbury, with his wife, Anne, and their four children.
