Coffman served as a subject matter expert in September for Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, contributing to the development of examination questions for the CFP certification examination. Longevity: the blessing and the bane
One of the new conversations around the Thanksgiving table this year was how old grandpa and great-grandma are — too old to make it to the table, but plenty old to be a key topic.
I don't remember years ago that we had so many relatives or friends with relatives in their 90s. My mother is 93, already five years older than any relative in her family. My friend's mother is 99. And another friend's mother passed away this year at 104. - November 22, 2011

Stop worrying, begin to love volatility
The new normal is that every day brings a 50 percent chance of calm and a 100 percent chance of uncertainty.
For those of us in the middle ground of approaching or entering that stage of life called retirement, uncertainties were not part of our earlier plans for this time. We thought of second homes, traveling, lots of time with family. We thought that not having to work meant we had earned this time for enjoying life and experiencing general peace of mind.
