Nelson Mandela dies at 95

— Nelson Mandela,95, anti-apartheid icon and former South African president, has died.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner's death was announced by South African President Jacob Zuma on Thursday.

Mandela retired from public life life in 2004 and had been dealing with declining health in recent years, including multiple hospital stays, according to NBC.com.

 

Wellwishers sing happy birthday outside the Pretoria Heart Hospital, where Nelson Mandela spends his 95th birthday.
