Ferguson aims to help bring city projects to a finish

As part of The Daily News’ coverage of the upcoming election in Amesbury, we asked the candidates for City Council to fill out questionnaires and provide a synopsis of their platform and reason for running.

Today, we share the responses of incumbent Anne Ferguson, who is seeking re-election to her at-large seat.

ANNE FERGUSON

Candidate’s statement

Amesbury is my home and I plan to stay here. Being a city councilor is demanding work at times and I felt that maybe the time was right for me to retire at the end of this term. What made me run again were all the people who spoke to me about staying on. These constituents feared that the ongoing projects that the mayor and council have been working on might disappear under different leadership.

The split tax rate is not the way to lower taxes for residents and I will never vote to reinstitute it. My belief that Amesbury is moving in the right direction remains strong. It is important for us to find solutions to the tax rate by making our schools the best that they can be and by finding creative ways to bring commercial and industrial development to Amesbury. We live here because it is a great community to live and raise our children. I hope to continue to be able to work toward that vision and be able to continue to enjoy everything that Amesbury has to offer with my children and grandchildren.
