Georgetown at Newburyport

Newburyport at Georgetown battled under the lights at World War Memorial Stadium Friday night for a chance to capture the CAL title.
BOSTON — The cornerstones of the Georgetown basketball program — Taryn O’Connell and Haley Gisonno — tearfully exited the TD Banknorth Garden floor yesterday afternoon with 1:47 remaining in their team’s pending loss to Millis in the Division 4 state-title game.
GEORGETOWN — In its first year in the Cape Ann League, Georgetown could be the only team to enter November undefeated.
Isolated atop the CAL small division, staring down at the likes of Amesbury (6-1 overall, 1-1 CAL Small) and Newburyport (3-5, 3-0), the mighty Royals (6-0, 3-0) desire no allies.
GEORGETOWN — What else can Joe Esposito do?
His offensive exploits are already well-chronicled. The returning All-Scholastic had them on display again yesterday for Georgetown against non-league opponent Marblehead, this despite wearing a bull's-eye.
1The Weagle siblings — Evan and Hannah — each are making notable impacts for their respective teams.
Evan, who coach Ron Comeau believes is the best goalie in the Cape Ann League, has backed up his coach's sentiments starting the season on a four-game shutout streak and having allowed only four goals in six games, good for tops amongst CAL goalies.
