Shakespeare's 'Midsummer Night's Dream' returns to Firehouse
Emma Carlton as “Cobweb,” Damon Jespersen as “Puck” and Grace Montgomery as “Peaseblossom” will perform in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The actors use a more contemporary version of Shakespeare’s play to make it easier for younger members of the audience to follow.
It's been 18 years since Newburyport's Anna Smulowitz last directed "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for the community, and it's been long enough. She's ready once again to bring Shakespeare's comedy to life.

Lookout: Port natives celebrate album release
Newburyport natives Josh and John Pritchard are continuing to make music.
The twin brothers began writing and recording music in 2003 and soon created their band Ruin/Renewal.
Last year, they released their debut extended play on Burst & Bloom Records. Earlier this month, the rock/blues band released a second collection of songs. A full-length album will be released in the fall. -
Port artist selected for permanent exhibit at Starbucks
Not too many people stop at Starbucks for a cup of coffee and receive a round of applause.
But Newburyport's Lisa Riordon and Betsy Shay-Davis can count themselves among the lucky few. That's what happens when you're the artist who created a new piece of artwork for Starbucks Coffee Co.'s Newburyport shop, and the woman who served as the artist's model. -
Spring Fest will bring crowds to Market Square
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer, and Newburyport is ready to celebrate.
The city's annual Spring Fest will fill Market Square on Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"I call it a Newburyport staple," Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce President Ann Ormond said. "It's one of those things — you can always count on having it." -
Salisbury chef earns accolades
It's lunchtime at Newburyport's Atria Merrimack Place, and Bill Pied is a busy guy.
Sure, that's the case most every day. After all, Pied is a chef for the 80-bed assisted-living community. But on this recent afternoon, Pied wasn't in the kitchen. He was making his way through the dining room and stopping at each table to chat with the residents. Addressing each by name, Pied easily engaged in conversation.
