Tour a lighthouse this weekend

The Newburyport Harbor Light at Plum Island will be open for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, weather permitting.

Sneakers are required, and there is a short ladder to climb. Children must be at least 5 years old and 42 inches tall.

Admission and parking are free, though donations will be accepted.

Amesbury bank features abstract art

Artwork by the Abstract Artists Group of New England is on display through Sept. 27 at The Provident Bank in Amesbury.

“Shape, Line and Color” brings together pieces by 15 artists from a Newburyport Art Association group created 12 years ago to support, encourage and promote abstract and nontraditional artists.

Members featured in the exhibit are Muriel Angelil, Pamela Bearor-Amiralian, Jennifer Burnham, Gabriel Cordovex, Sharyn Dahn, Tina Fazio, Ethel Hills, Carole Holcroft, Barbara London, John Maciejowski, Bonnie Jean Malcolm, Joshua Marcus, Elaine Mendzela, Mark Scholz and Regina Valluzzi.

An artists reception will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the 5 Market St. branch. Light refreshments will be served.

The artwork may be viewed during business hours at both the Market Street and Route 110 branches in Amesbury. For more information, call 978-834-8540.

Circus coming to town this weekend

“The Wizard of Oz” is inspiring this weekend’s Circus Smirkus performances at Manter Field in Newbury.

Promising everything from the Yellow Brick Road to flying monkeys, “Oz Incorporated” will be presented tomorrow at 2 and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $21 for adults and $17 for children ages 2-12. They are available at Eureka Toys at The Tannery Marketplace in Newburyport, online at smirkus.org or by calling 877-SMIRKUS.
