Applications are being accepted for Session 10 of the YWCA’s free Encore Program.
Designed for those who have experienced breast cancer at any time in their lives, the session will meet on Wednesdays from Sept. 11 through Nov. 27.
Participants will do land exercises at 5:15 p.m., followed by warm-water pool exercises at 5:50 p.m. The program also includes peer group support and guest speakers.

Blood drive today in Amesbury
The Amesbury Senior Center is sponsoring a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. today in The Provident Bank Room, 68 Elm St.
Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
In August, all presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free 24-pack of spring water and a coupon for up to 20 percent off from participating Walgreens.
Donors will also have the chance to win two Red Sox tickets and to be honored at Fenway Park as the Blood Donor of the Game.

Healing center marks 20 years
The Way to Balance Center for Advanced Healing and Training in Amesbury is celebrating its 20th anniversary with three community events.
A Neck & Back Pain Relief Clinic will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can register for a private 20-minute session with a practitioner offering holistic treatments including acupressure and hands-on healing techniques.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, a Headache & Migraine Pain Relief Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Private 20-minute sessions will teach people how to prevent headaches and methods for relieving them naturally.
The public is invited to meet therapists, vendors and support staff during an open house on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20. Features include a mini expo, talks, demonstrations, raffles and refreshments.
Admission to all three events is free, but a portion of donations received at the clinics will benefit Our Neighbors’ Table. Donations and raffle proceeds during the open house will benefit Our Neighbors’ Table and other local charities.
The Way to Balance, located at 21 Water St., is owned by Sue Hanks Singleton and her husband, Aaron Singleton. Sue is a medical intuitive and master healer/teacher who recently released a new book, “Nine Simple Laws to Create Joy and Grace: A Comprehensive Guide to Manifestation.” Aaron is a licensed massage therapist, master healer/teacher and founder of the Energy of Life healing process.

Kripalu yoga offeredon Plum Island
Throughout the month of August, Angelena Craig is leading a Kripalu yoga class each Wednesday and Saturday at 8 a.m. on Plum Island.
The one-hour classes are a gentle slow flow to open, stretch and balance the mind and the body and are appropriate for experienced yoga students, as well as beginners.
To find the class, come onto the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Park in the first large parking lot, and walk onto the beach, turning to the left. You will see the class meeting by the big wood sign. Bring a large towel, water and sunglasses.

Learn the art of Zen meditation
Free Zen meditation instruction is offered Monday nights at the First Religious Society in Newburyport.
The practice sessions meet in the lower meetinghouse at 26 Pleasant St. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a 6 p.m. orientation session for first-time participants.
The classes are taught by Joyce Haydock, a dharma teacher at the Kwan Um School of Zen for more than 22 years.

The following community karma yoga classes will be offered this month at the People’s Yoga Co-Op in Amesbury on a pay-by-donation basis. All classes are drop-in and held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at 14 Cedar St.
