A free opening reception will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and will feature music by guitarist John Tavano. The show opens today and runs through Jan. 26.

The gallery at the Firehouse, located in Newburyport’s Market Square, is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., later on performance days.

Winter farmers market this Sunday

The Newburyport Farmers’ Winter Market will be open this Sunday in The Tannery Marketplace Event Tent.

Among the offerings are free-range meat and locally grown produce, along with cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods and handmade crafts. Live music will also be performed.

Market hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every other Sunday. Upcoming dates are Jan. 19; Feb. 2 and 16; March 2, 16 and 30; and April 6. The Tannery is located at 50 Water St.

Theater groups casting new shows

Actors and actresses ages 10 and up are invited to audition for Village Theatre Company’s production of “Night at the Wax Museum.”

Six students stuck in summer school get more excitement than they bargained for when wax figures come to life and they embark on a treasure hunt with characters such as Cleopatra, King Henry VIII, Butch Cassidy and Lizzie Borden.

Auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 8 and Sunday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Laurel Grange, 21 Garden St., West Newbury. Performances are April 3-6.

Those interested are asked to bring a list of shows they have been in and a head shot, as well as to be prepared to perform a short song and a very short scene or monologue. People will also be required to read/act in groups.

Auditions for “Barefoot in the Park,” Georgetown Theatre Workshop’s next production, will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m.

Roles are available for four men and two women in the Neil Simon play. Characters include newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter (mid-20s to early 40s); Corie’s mother, Mrs. Baker (50s-60s); a telephone repair man or woman (any age); and a delivery person (any age).
