Health Beat: Teen contest promotes healthy breakfasts

Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Anna Jaques hosting Birth Center tours

Expectant parents or people considering starting a family are invited to take free tours of the Birth Center and Neonatology Care Center at Anna Jaques Hospital.

The tours will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, through Oct. 1. Visitors will receive information on classes and programs on topics including early pregnancy, prepared childbirth, breast-feeding, prenatal exercise, hypnobirthing, prenatal and postnatal massage, and support for new mothers.

Low-vision support offered in Amesbury

A support group for those with recent or ongoing vision loss meets on the first Thursday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Amesbury Senior Center.

Whether low vision is a result of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma or another condition, group members will learn about the tools available and have the opportunity to share their experiences with others facing similar challenges.

Guest speakers have come from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, Perkins School for the Blind and Simply Foot Care. The group also takes biannual outings.
