Yoga program free for seniors, veterans

Free chair yoga is offered to seniors and veterans every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Amesbury Council of Aging.

Sponsored by Maplewood Care and Rehabilitation Center, the program is led by instructor Whitney Wilma.

The Council on Aging is located at 68 Elm St. For more information, call 978-388-8138.

Blood drives in local communities

There are several upcoming blood drives in the Greater Newburyport region:

Amesbury: Thursday, April 10, noon to 6 p.m., Holy Family Parish Hall, 9 Sparhawk St. Sponsored by the Amesbury Lions Club.

Newburyport: Monday, April 14, 2 to 7 p.m., Elks Lodge, 25 Low St.

Seabrook: Monday, April 21, 1 to 6 p.m., Trinity United Church, 29 Main St.

Merrimac: Monday, April 21, 2 to 7 p.m., Merrimac Public Library, 86 W. Main St.

Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Library offers free exercise classes

Free weekly tai chi is held every Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Newburyport Public Library.

No experience is necessary to join the classes, which are led by Kathleen Kondylas. Participants should wear comfortable clothing.

Learn the art of Zen meditation

Free Zen meditation instruction is offered Monday nights at the First Religious Society in Newburyport.

The practice sessions meet in the lower meetinghouse at 26 Pleasant St. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a 6 p.m. orientation session for first-time participants.
