The art of abandoned buildings
New paintings by Bonita LeFlore are on display through Sunday at the Newburyport Art Association.
The nine works explore the architecture of forgotten places, most of them on the North Shore. The infusion of color, real and imagined, brings life to buildings that might be considered eyesores.
The Spring Members Open Show is also on display through April 19 and features acrylic, digital art, drawing, fine crafts, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, printmaking, sculpture and watercolor.
The association is located at 65 Water St. and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
Author to speak at Andrews library
Michael Cormier is the featured guest at the Emma L. Andrews Library’s Author Night on Thursday, April 17.
The author of the suspenseful novel “Sumner Island,” Cormier will also read from his new book, “Convention.” Both books have vivid regional settings and plenty of local color.
Additionally, Cormier will speak about his experiences with both traditional publishing and self-publishing.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
The library is located at the corner of Purchase and Marlborough streets in Newburyport. Guests are encouraged to stop by beforehand to reserve seats for the presentation.
