The Lookout: Newburyport girl featured in ‘The Sound of Music’ at North Shore Music Theatre

A 12-year-old Newburyport girl is playing Louisa von Trapp in the North Shore Music Theatre’s production of “The Sound of Music,” opening Tuesday.

Maggie Budzyna played an orphan in “Annie” at NSMT last year and Marta von Trapp in this year’s Community House of Hamilton and Wenham production of “The Sound of Music.”

The beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein musical is returning the NSMT for the first time since 1989. The story of a governess who captures the heart of a stern captain and his seven children contains several well-known songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi” and “So Long, Farewell.”

Performances are June 11 through 22, Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. An additional matinee will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.

Tickets cost between $45 and $75. Youths 18 and under will save 50 percent on Family Friday, June 14. For reservations or more information, call 978-232-7200, visit www.nsmt.org or visit the box office at the theater, 62 Dunham Road, Beverly.
