The Lookout: Orchestras holding auditions for young musicians

The Saturday shows start at 7 p.m. and include The Spinney Brothers on July 6, Shirim Klezmer Orchestra on July 13, the Paul Broadnax Ensemble on July 20, Grace Kelly Jazz on July 27, the Don Campbell Band on Aug. 10, Rebecca Parris on Aug. 17 and the New Black Eagle Jazz Band on Aug. 24.

Sunday concerts start at 2 p.m. and include Fatum Brothers Jazz on July 14, the Shaw Brothers on July 21, the Hal McIntyre Orchestra “Big Band Tribute” to Frank Sinatra on Aug. 11, Liz Frame and the Kickers on Aug. 18, and ’60s Invasion on Aug. 25.

Photographer’s work on display at bank

Photographs by Brooke Whicher are on display through July 28 at The Provident Bank’s Newburyport branch in an exhibit titled “Keep Calm and Sparkle On!”

An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, July 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the bank, 66 Storey Ave. Light refreshments will be served.

Whicher is a North Shore photojournalist who loves natural light, ombre and anything that sparkles. She has trained for several years with Kelly Mintz of SEE Shore Photography and is also a “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” photographer, documenting infant remembrances for local hospitals and families. Additionally, she takes pictures and volunteers for the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society in Salisbury.

The exhibit may be viewed during normal bank hours, which are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Dear World screening and reception

A celebration party and screening event for the Dear World/Dear Newburyport project will be held Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at City Hall.

A video presentation of portraits showcasing what matters most to people will be shown. The pictures were taken this past weekend by Robert X. Fogarty.
