Arc holds relationships workshop Tuesday

The Arc and local Parent Advisory Councils will host a workshop on The Real Friends Project on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Newburyport High School, Room 118.

Jim Ross from The Arc of Massachusetts will discuss the project, which explores the benefits of relationships between people with disabilities and those without disabilities. The workshop will provide information about resources to help individuals engage in, and sustain, those relationships.

Engaging in relationships that might blossom into friendships can be especially challenging to people of all ages who happen to have disabilities.

Despite great advancements in disability rights and efforts at inclusion, there is still progress to be made. Because of situations like group homes and separate educational opportunities, relationships for people with disabilities are often limited to family members, paid staff and other people with disabilities. All people can benefit greatly by a diversity of relationships. Learn what steps can you take to make this happen.

There is no cost to attend this session. Attendees are asked to register. Contact Kerry.Mahoney@TheArcofGHN.Org or 978 373-0552 ext. 201. The program is co-sponsored by The Arc of Greater Haverhill/Newburyport and the Parent Advisory Councils of Newburyport, Georgetown, Haverhill, Pentucket and North Andover.
