Lookout: Pianist Moyer kicks off music program

(Continued)

Pouliot, a 2007 Newburyport High graduate, moved to Los Angeles shortly after finishing his degree at Emerson College in Boston after being offered a position working on a short documentary, “Open Heart,” which follows the journey of eight young Rwandan heart patients who travel to Sudan to get lifesaving treatment at a free heart surgery clinic.

Late last week, it was announced the film is among the contenders in the Best Short Documentary category. The film was nominated along with the films, “Inocente,” “Kings Point,” “Mondays at Racine,” and “Redemption.”

Pouliot, who first became interested in film studies as a student at Newburyport High, was responsible for organizing and overseeing the detailed travel process for the cast and crew, orchestrating the shooting from the film’s home base, and arranging for translators for a film that features five different languages. Once the footage was in hand, Pouliot was named an associate editor and was responsible helping to piece the film together.

The Oscars ceremony is set for Feb. 24, beginning at 7 p.m.
