Health Beat: Hospital Aid Association marks 125 years

This practice of yoga is gentle on the joints, as it is performed sitting in a chair, with options to stand if you wish. Beginners are welcome and encouraged.

Blood drives in local communities

A number of blood drives are scheduled in the area over the next several weeks.

Amesbury: Monday, Sept. 23, 2 to 7 p.m., All Saints Anglican Church, 67 Friend St.; Thursday, Sept. 26, 2 to 7 p.m., Main Street Congregational Church, 145 Main St.; and Friday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Amesbury Senior Center, 68 Elm St.

Groveland: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2 to 7 p.m., Groveland Congregational Church, UCC, 4 King St. Sponsored by American Legion Post 248.

Newburyport: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1 to 6 p.m., Elks Lodge, 25 Low St.

Salisbury: Sunday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Latitude Sports Club, 191 Elm St.

Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

In September, all presenting donors will receive a voucher good for discounts at Monro Muffler/Brake & Service. In October, donors have the opportunity to win a $200 gift card courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Get help understanding Alzheimer’s disease

An Alzheimer’s support group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the SeaView Retreat, 50 Mansion Drive, Rowley.

Held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the meetings will help primary caregivers, family members and friends understand Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as offer education resources, guest speakers and peer support.

The group is led by Dawn Edwards and Suzanne Carpentier, who have both received intense training through the Alzheimer’s Association.
