The 22nd annual Walk Against Domestic Violence is set for this Sunday on the Newburyport rail trail.
Hosted by the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, the 3.5-mile walk runs from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration at 8 a.m. at the wind turbine at Mark Richey Woodworking, 40 Parker St.
The walk is the center’s largest fundraiser each year and will help support services including a 24-hour emergency hotline, crisis counseling, advocacy, legal representation, children’s trauma services, art therapy and housing.

Wrestlers fight against breast cancer
Atlantic Pro Wrestling is joining forces with Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
On Tuesday, 15 percent of proceeds from all sales at the Market Square, Newburyport, shop will be donated to the foundation, which is dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage. Visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. can meet some of the wrestlers and get their pictures taken with the APW Championship Belt.
There will also be a Body Slams for Cancer fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Newbury fire hall, 3 Morgan Ave.
Charity event to help new nonprofit
A gala event to benefit the Project Wheels Foundation is being held this Sunday at Andiamo Restaurant + Bar in Newburyport.
Project Wheels is a new organization that provides support and equipment for Friedreich’s ataxia patients and their families. The rare neuromuscular disease very often limits the mobility and free movement of those afflicted.
From 4 to 8 p.m. at the 24 Winter St. restaurant, the event will include signature dishes from chef Jim Rogers, music, cocktails and a silent auction. Admission is a donation of $50.

Run/walk to benefit cancer research
The seventh annual Mike Donohoe Run/Walk for Melanoma is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 20, in Georgetown.
In honor of the former Georgetown school facilities manager who died in 2006, the 5K raises money for a college scholarship fund for Georgetown students and the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
The event starts with a Kid’s K at 11:30 a.m., followed by the run/walk at noon, at Perley School, 51 North St. There are cash prizes for the top runners, and the day will also include refreshments, raffles, giveaways and free skin cancer screenings.

Library offers free exercise classes
Free weekly tai chi will start next Friday, Oct. 11, at the Newburyport Public Library.
No experience is necessary to join the classes, which are led by Kathleen Kondylas and will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. every Friday. Participants should wear comfortable clothing.

A new Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at SeaView Retreat, 50 Mansion Drive, Rowley.
All caregivers for people with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia are welcome. Participants will share stories, receive informational packets and learn about educational resources.

Information session on autism program
Learn about the Davis Autism Approach at a free information session Thursday at 10 a.m. in Amesbury.
The new, highly effective program is now available on the North Shore and is designed to help those with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, high-functioning autism and pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified.

Public invited to Coastal Trails meeting
Recreational walkers and bicyclists are encouraged to bring their questions to the next meeting of the Coastal Trails Coalition, scheduled for Thursday.
The coalition is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that assists in the development, promotion and stewardship of the Coastal Trails Network, a 30-mile public system of bicycle and pedestrian trails connecting Amesbury, Newbury, Newburyport and Salisbury.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Newburyport Institution for Savings Lending Office, 81 State St.
Recognizing the signs of dyslexia
A free, informational seminar on dyslexia will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Amesbury.
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of what dyslexia is, signs to look for and solutions that help. Difficulties with reading, decoding, phonemic awareness, writing, spelling, math or attention deficits can all be caused by dyslexia.
The seminar is presented by New England Dyslexia Solutions and will be held in the Boston North Technology Park Building A conference room, 110 Haverhill Road.

Walk to support suicide-prevention foundation
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will hold its first Merrimack Valley Out of the Darkness Community Walk tomorrow.
Check-in time is from 9 to 10 a.m., and the walk is from 11 a.m. to noon at Winnekenni Park, 347 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill.
These 3- to 5-mile walks are taking place in hundreds of communities across the country this year, with the proceeds going toward research, education, advocacy, suicide prevention initiatives and programs to support those affected by suicide.

Free yoga and meditation at Newburyport church
Free yoga and meditation classes will be offered Saturdays through Oct. 12 at the First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.
Presented by Thoughtful Life Studies and taught by Mary Kay Dyer, the sequence is designed to open each chakra, spreading healing energy through the body. Participants are asked to bring their own mats and blankets. Some yoga experience is helpful but not required.
