Bossa Buena plays at State Street eatery

The local group Bossa Buena will perform at 17 State Street Cafe tomorrow night as part of the restaurant’s “Beats, Burgers and Brews” program.

Classical guitarist John Tavano, vocalist Ann Harter, flutist/sax player Albert Lamar, and bassist Chuck Walker will play from 7 to 9 p.m., offering sounds of the bossa nova music of Brazil and the samba.

The music will continue on Saturday, as well, when the acoustic duo Wild Maple performs from 7 to 9 p.m.

Beal dances in ‘Cinderella Ballet’

Salisbury’s Jessica Beal will perform in New England Civic Ballet’s production of Provofiev’s “Cinderella Ballet” on Saturday at the Rogers Center for the Performing Arts at Merrimack College.

Performances are set for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets can be ordered online at or by calling the studio at 978-975-0289.

The ballet shares the familiar fairy tale, and begins as Cinderella and her stepsisters receive an invitaton to the prince’s ball where he hopes to meet his future bride.

Registration underway for kids’ camp

The Newburyport nonprofit Kids as Peacemakers is holding registration for its Leadership Development Camp next month.

The two-day overnight camp will be held on April 17 and April 18 at Central Congregational Church in Newburyport. Open to kids in sixth through eighth grade, the camp is meant to help students discover the concept of peace and to explore their own leadership potential. It is sponsored by Newburyport Youth Services, The Commission on Diversity and Tolerance, and the Greater Newburyport Clergy Association.

The camp sessions will be led by trained facilitators from On Earth Peace. There is a $25 registration fee, which includes materials and meals. Registration will be open through April 3. An information night for parents will be held on April 3 at 7 p.m. at the church, 14 Titcomb St., Newburyport.
