Art show and sale this weekend

An art show and sale will be held tomorrow and Saturday to raise funds for the maintenance and upkeep of Newburyport’s Kelleher Park.

From 1 to 8 p.m tomorrow, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, the sale and show will be held at the First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.

The fundraiser is part of an ongoing community-wide campaign to restore the playground equipment and maintain the area.

First Religious Society releases book

The Historical Committee of the First Religious Society in Newburyport recently released a book, “Where We Stood: A New England Church and the American Revolution, 1764-1783.”

The historical book “examines the decisions made during that period by the society’s parishioners, their friends, and their neighbors,” the committee members wrote in a statement.

Through their research, the committee found that “much of the population was willing to risk their lives, the lives of their families, and their often-large fortunes by actively supporting the opposition to escalating British audacity — despite the fact that their disobedience might be considered an act of treason, punishable by death.”

The book can be found in Newburyport at Jabberwocky Bookshop, The Book Rack, the Historical Society of Old Newbury, the Custom House Maritime Museum, and at the First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist.

Middle Eastern Dance Night for MRFRS

Several of the region’s best bellydancers will join together on Saturday to help raise funds for the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society in Salisbury.

The dancers will participate in a Middle Eastern Dance Night and perform a range of dance styles from 2 to 5 p.m., including Egyptian, cabaret, tribal and sword.

Admission is $10. This event is for an audience age 21 and older. The Grog is located at 13 Middle St., Newburyport.
