Health Beat: Dyslexia info session Monday

---- — If you or your child have difficulties with reading, decoding, phonemic awareness, writing, spelling, math, or attention deficits, dyslexia could be the cause.

New England Dyslexia Solutions is holding a free informational seminar on Monday that will offer in-depth understanding of what dyslexia is, signs to look for, and solutions that help. The seminar will begin at 10 a.m. in Amesbury at Boston North Technology Park on Haverhill Road, building A, conference room, 110.

Blood drive

at Elks Hall

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Newburyport Elks Lodge on Monday from 2 to 7 p.m.

Donors will receive a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. The lodge is at 25 Low St., Newburyport. To make an appointment to donate, visit www.redcrossblood.org/make-a-donation.

Registration starting soon for spring swim lessons

Open registration for the spring session swim lessons at the YWCA Greater Newburyport begins on Feb. 11 at 8 a.m.

The classes will run from Feb. 25 to April 13. Swim lessons will be offered for all levels, beginning at 6 months of age. Sessions will be held Monday through Saturday with morning and afternoon options.

Adult group swim lessons will also be offered: beginners on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Intermediate classes will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. or Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Class registrations must be made in person at the YWCA membership desk at 13 Market St., Newburyport. Both members and nonmembers can register. For more information and registration forms, visit the website www.ywcanewburyport.org or call 978-465-9922.

Community yoga classes in Amesbury

Tonight from 6:30 to 7:45. a community karma yoga class will be held at People’s Yoga Co-op in Amesbury. It is a heated vinyasa flow yoga that is pay-by-donation.

This program will continue next month as well. Feb. 1: Warming Yoga with Jennifer Freeman, Feb. 8: Happy Hour Yoga with Jennifer Freeman,

Feb. 15: Yin Yoga with Kristin Sauve and Feb. 22: Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Paula Wilson.

The yoga studio is also hosting several workshops for members of the community. On Jan. 31, a Peak Performance Living workshop given by Dr. Colleen Suchecki will begin at 8 p.m. She will focus on steps to banish burnout and sickness. There is a $10 fee.

On Feb. 10, a Heart Opening Yoga workshop with Jennifer Freeman will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Freeman will focus on poses that open the heart and help to increase the ability to give and receive love. All participants will receive a special chocolate treat. There is a $20 fee.

Open house at yoga studio

People’s Yoga Co-op of Amesbury is celebrating its second anniversary with an open house at the studio, 14 Cedar St., 101, Amesbury, on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Owner Jennifer Freeman and several teachers will welcome visitors and explain the variety of yoga styles offered at the studio. Light refreshments will be served, and live music by Michael Bernier is planned.
