---- — People’s Yoga Co-op of Amesbury is celebrating its second anniversary with an open house at the studio, 14 Cedar St., 101, Amesbury, tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m.
Owner Jennifer Freeman and several teachers will welcome visitors and explain the variety of yoga styles offered at the studio. Light refreshments will be served, and live music by Michael Bernier is planned.

Healing yoga for
breast cancer survivors
Roots to Wings Yoga Studio will hold a healing yoga session each month for breast cancer survivors. The class will meet on the second Sunday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. at Roots to Wings Healing and Yoga Studio in Byfield. The class will be led by two instructors who are also breast cancer survivors. They will use gentle stretches and restorative poses.

Healthy eating clinic in Rowley
Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley is holding several free clinics designed to provide healthy eating and weight loss tips. The program will be held on Feb. 7 and Feb. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Activities include nutrition lessons and a cooking demonstration. All participants will receive a complimentary pedometer.

Spin for Animals fundraiser Feb. 9
Local gyms are encouraging animal lovers to get fit and help animals in the 10th annual “Tour de Pooch & Pals” Spin for Animals on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
In an effort to raise money for the animals and programs of the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, spin instructors from nine area fitness centers throughout the Merrimack Valley are encouraging seasoned spinners and those new to the workout to spin for one to three hours. Natural High Fitness Club in Newburyport and Latitude Sports Club in Salisbury are among the health clubs taking part this year. Latitude is including a triathlon event and all the group fitness classes for the morning in the fundraiser.
Participants in the Spin can choose to register for one, two or three hours, and can spin as an individual or as a team. Registration is available online at www.mspca.org/spin2013, or in person at any of the nine participating gym locations. Non-spinners can choose from an assortment of group fitness classes at several Spin locations, including Latitude in Salisbury.

Community yoga classes in Amesbury
A warming yoga class will be held at People’s Yoga Co-op in Amesbury tonight from 6:45 to 7:30. It is a pay-by-donation class.
This program will continue next week with Happy Hour Yoga with Jennifer Freeman on Feb. 8. Also on Feb. 15: Yin Yoga with Kristin Sauve and Feb. 22: Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Paula Wilson.
The yoga studio is also hosting a Heart Opening Yoga workshop with Freeman on Feb. 10 that will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Freeman will focus on poses that open the heart and help to increase the ability to give and receive love. All participants will receive a special chocolate treat. There is a $20 fee.

Free chronic pain workshop at YWCA
The YWCA Greater Newburyport and Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley will co-host a chronic pain workshop on Tuesdays, beginning March 12. The workshops will run through April 16.
The sessions will be held at the YWCA’s 13 Market St. facility from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
The workshop is suitable for individuals who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, post-stroke pain, multiple sclerosis, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic neck, shoulder or back pain, or any other types of ongoing pain.
Participants will learn how to control pain and deal with frustration, fatigue, isolation and poor sleep. The program will offer tips on eating well, starting an exercise program and increasing one’s energy level.

Registration starting soon for swim lessons
Open registration for the spring session swim lessons at the YWCA Greater Newburyport begins on Feb. 11 at 8 a.m.
The classes will run from Feb. 25 to April 13. Swim lessons will be offered for all levels, beginning at 6 months of age. Sessions will be held Monday through Saturday with morning and afternoon options.
Adult group swim lessons will also be offered: beginners on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Intermediate classes will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. or Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
