Hallett to speak at Emma Andrews library

Newburyport author William Hallett will discuss his latest book, “Newburyport and the Civil War,” on Thursday, Feb. 21, as part of the author series at the Emma L. Andrews Library on Purchase Street, Newburyport.

A 12th generation descendant of a first settler of Newbury, Nicholas Noyes, Hallett writes about the Newburyporters who served on the Union and Confederate sides and how they impacted the Civil War.

Hallett’s multimedia presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. It is free to attend. Light refreshments are served. Space is limited; reserve a seat by signing up at the library or by calling 978-358-8097.

Senior Readers give performance Feb. 22

Due to the Blizzard of 2013, the performance of “Revenge of the Red Feather Ladies” by the Senior Readers theater workshop at the Firehouse Center for the Arts has been rescheduled from last week.

The free performance has been moved to Feb. 22. The show, which begins at 7 p.m., is the product of their acting classes. The casts will perform two one-act plays, “The Revenge of the Red Feather Ladies” and “The Red Feather Ladies Get Their Man,” both of which were written by Maxine Holmgren.

The arts education program is designed for seniors over the age of 55. The performance is a staged reading, a format in which actors remain seated and read from a script.

Mardi Gras concert moved to Feb. 22

The Belleville Roots Music Series continues tomorrow night with their annual Mardi Gras concert and dance. Initially scheduled for last weekend, the performance was moved to Feb. 22 due to the blizzard.

Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys will present a mix of Creole classics and their own brand of contemporary Zydeco. The show begins at 8 p.m. at the Belleville Church, 300 High St., Newburyport.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of show. Admission for children age 12 and under is $10. Tickets are available at Dyno Records, 1 Middle St., Newburyport, at the Belleville Congregational Church office today and tomorrow mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or via the church website at www.bellevillechurch.org/roots.php.
