Pentucket Players stage ‘Sunset Boulevard’

Newburyport’s Cindy MacIasaac will join the local acting troupe Pentucket Players in staging the first community theater production of Broadway musical “Sunset Boulevard” in the area, beginning this weekend.

The musical, which is based on the 1950s movie, has earned 7 Tony Awards for its depiction of the life of Norma Desmond, a silent movie star seeking to make a return to the big screen. When fate brings unknown screenwriter Joe Gillis into her life, the pair begin to rely on each other for more than just business.

The show will run from tomorrow through Sunday, and next weekend, at the Rogers Performing Arts Center at Merrimack College in North Andover. Tickets are $24. Call 978-521-9259 or visit www.pentucketplayers.org to learn show times and to purchase tickets.
