Dyment showcases work at Firehouse
Artist Cheryl Dyment is hanging her work in the gallery at the Firehouse Center for the Arts this month.
Her exhibit, "The Importance of Floating and Other Lessons," is derived from Dyment's experience as a teen when she nearly drowned while swimming at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester.
Dyment, of Middleton, created the images from her memories, which stem from a lesson she learned in swim class, to lie on her back and float, when getting pulled by a riptide.
"Calmness enveloped her even as the currents carried her so far out she could no longer see land," according to the exhibit's material. "What she did see was a bright sun, blue water and a 'sea of diamonds' all around her." She was eventually rescued by a lifeguard.
The show will run through March 11 in the Firehouse lobby.
