---- — There will be a meeting of the Asperger’s Syndrome Support Group on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Higgins conference room of Anna Jaques Hospital, 25 Highland Ave., Newburyport. A general discussion, including recent successes and challenges, is planned.
This support group addresses the concerns of parents of school-aged children diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, high-functioning autism or related challenges. Meetings are free, open to the public and serve families from all neighboring communities. The group is sponsored by the Asperger’s Association of New England and meets on the second Monday of every month.
Stretch classes begin Tuesday
Certified fitness trainer Cyd Raschke will offer “Stretch for Release and Energy” classes on Tuesday evenings, beginning March 12.
Raschke has designed the sessions to expand range of motion, relieve stress, improve circulation and release congestion in tissues. Athletes can reduce risk of injury by lengthening major muscle groups, computer jockeys benefit by unwinding joints constricted in sitting, and couch potatoes will find the class compatible with their lifestyle.
The series is free of charge as part of the adult education program at First Religious Society. The sessions will run from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. each week, through April 30. Blood drive in Salisbury
A community blood drive will be held at the Hilton Senior Center, 43 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, today from 1 to 6 p.m. It is sponsored by the Salisbury Lions Club and the American Red Cross.
Snacks, fruit juices and bottled water will be provided to donors by the American Red Cross. Chowda will be provided by Lena’s Seafood Restaurant. All donors during March will receive a coupon for a free hand-crafted Griddle Melt from I-Hop.

Couch to 5K program
The Couch to 5K Program, designed for people who want to begin a running program, will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the track at Fuller Field on Low Street, Newburyport. The nine-week program will train participants for the first annual Green Strides Mother’s Day 5K in Amesbury.
A second Couch to 5K program will be offered beginning April 6, also at the Fuller Field on Saturday mornings at 8. It will also be offered on Wednesday evenings. This program will train participants to run in the second annual Derek Hines Flag Day Race in June.
There is no charge for the Couch to 5K programs.
Community yoga classes in Amesbury
Every Friday in March at 6:30 p.m., People’s Yoga Co-op in Amesbury will hold a community karma yoga class with a different teacher and different theme. Each class is a pay-by-donation.
The schedule includes: March 8, Awesome Abs Yoga with Paula Wilson; March 15, Yin Yoga with Kristin Sauve; March 22, Happy Hour Yoga with Jennifer Freeman and March 29, Full Moon Yoga with Nancy MacDougal.
On Sunday, an Early Spring Awakening Yoga class is scheduled with senior yoga teacher Julia Tirabassi from noon to 2 p.m. There is a $25 fee. Registration is required.
People’s Yoga Co-op is located at 14 Cedar St, 101, Amesbury.
Free yoga classes with donation
Anne Rundle, the owner of Merrimac’s new yoga studio, Asteya Yoga, is giving back to the community as she teaches.
Asteya Yoga promotes affordable classes, and on the last Saturday of the month, in lieu of paying for classes, participants may make a donation to the charity of the month.
On March 30, the studio will be collecting donations for the Our Neighbors’ Table food pantry during the 7 a.m. Power Yoga and 8:30 a.m. Gentle flow Yoga sessions. On April 27, classes will be free with a donation to the Fresh Air Fund; on May 25, the recipient will be Opportunity Works in Newburyport.
Asteya Yoga is located at 9 School St., Merrimac.
