Lee Yeomans hangs her work at Anna Jaques

A self-taught photographer, Lee Yeomans has been at home behind the lens of a camera since the late 1970s. Over the years, she’s viewed the hobby as a creative outlet as she’s progressed from shooting with film to capturing images on her digital Nikon.

Her work has been accepted in many juried shows at the Newburyport Art Association, and she claimed first place in one show and honorable mention in two others. Last year, she earned first place in the Essx National Heritage Society photography contest.

Currently, Yeomans’ photographs are on display at several downtown locations: Angie’s, Valerie’s Gallery and Body Sense, and beginning next week, a display of her photographs will hang in the front hallway at Anna Jaques Hospital. The exhibit will run from Nov. 29 through Dec. 27 and is a fundraiser for the Anna Jaques Aid Association.

A fan of capturing images of nature, Yeomans is a director of Coastal Discoveries, which affords her many opportunities to shoot the “local watery environment and the life it holds.”

‘Babar the Elephant’ concert today

Symphony by the Sea will host a special family concert today as part of its efforts to introduce the younger generation to classical music.

The hour-long family concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Newburyport City Hall. Storyteller Judith Black will narrate “The Story of Babar,” as she is accompanied by the symphony. The story will be set to music by Poulenc.

“Babar is a much loved story, familiar to the kids ... and it’s been set to music, most notably by Poulenc,” board member Matt Sagal wrote in an email. “In addition to a fun hour, we want to introduce the kids to classical music as a joy ... and this piece, along with the other musical selections will do that.”
