The award, part of PLANET’s annual Safety Recognition Awards Program and sponsored by CNA, honors those companies with thorough, high-performing safety programs that create and maintain safe work environments in the green industry. New video production agency opens in Port
Gabe Davis of Newburyport and Matthew Dorris of Watertown have launched a new video production agency, Grain Digital, at 44 Merrimac St., Newburyport. Grain Digital offers HD video and film production, motion graphics, post-production services, interactive design and marketing integration strategy. Russell Consulting opens office in Florida
Russell Consulting recently opened a second office in Venice, Fla., to serve clients in Florida and in other southeastern states. David F. Russell, the company’s founder and president, has been an active member of the American Water Works Association and the New England Water Works Association. He is a registered professional engineer in the states of Massachusetts, New Jersey and Florida and has more than 30 years of professional experience as a utility manager, senior engineer and principal consultant.
Russell Consulting is a management consulting firm specializing in providing management, engineering and economic expertise to publicly owned utilities, related government agencies and companies that are large consumers of utility services. Newburyport resident honored by state association
Massachusetts Water Works Association recently honored several water works professionals at its Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Among those recognized was Alan Cathcart of Newburyport, superintendent for the Concord Public Works Water and Sewer Division. Cathcart received the Executive Director Award, which recognizes a member whose knowledge, accomplishments and contributions in the water works industry and also outstanding service to the association entitles that individual to special recognition. Cathcart has served as co-chairman of the association’s Legislative Advisory Committee for a number of years. Most recently, he played a key role in discussions surrounding current and future water allocation as a member of the Massachusetts Sustainable Water Management Initiative’s Policy Committee. Cathcart has been a strong advocate for looking at water resource issues in a more integrated way.
Durkee receives CHST certification
Michael Durkee has completed all requirements for certification as a Construction Health and Safety Technician. This certification is awarded to individuals who meet the experience and/or education requirements to include passing a four-hour examination. The examination covers safety and health inspections, general safety training, safety and health record keeping, hazard communication compliance and administration, OSHA and other inspections.
The Construction Health and Safety Technician provides an important supporting effort at the job site level to aid in the protection of workers, the public, property and the environment. The CHST functions with specifically designed and managed programs aimed at compliance with the safety principles and federal, state and local regulations.
Durkee is currently employed at Zampell Refractories, Inc., 3 Stanley Tucker Drive, Newburyport, where he has been an employee for 25 years.
Chamber announces ribbon cuttings
The Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry is celebrating two grand openings and ribbon cuttings this week.
The Collection of Newburyport invites the public to its officially opening tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Collection is a lifestyle store for today’s busy woman and offers fashion-forward footwear, resort basics and accessories. It is located at 1 Merrimac Landing, Unit 4, across from Not Your Average Joe’s.
On Thursday, Stonewall Kitchens at 35 State St. will celebrate its grand opening at 4 p.m. The public is invited to stop in for some tasting samples.

Chemical Companies honored for educational outreach initiatives

The Chemical Educational Foundation and the Society of Chemical Manufactures & Affiliates is awarding Strem Chemicals with their co-created Educational Outreach Award, The award, given each year, is a part of SOCMA’s ChemStewards Performance Improvement Awards and honors SOCMA member companies that have dedicated themselves to enhancing science education opportunities in the community.
Strem Chemicals is also being recognized for exemplary efforts in improving its environmental, health, safety and security by the SOCMA and will accept a Gold Performance Improvement Award. Strem Chemicals was recognized for its successful efforts in exceeding standards set forth in the ChemStewards Program.
