Newburyport resident honored by state association

Massachusetts Water Works Association recently honored several water works professionals at its Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Among those recognized was Alan Cathcart of Newburyport, superintendent for the Concord Public Works Water and Sewer Division. Cathcart received the Executive Director Award, which recognizes a member whose knowledge, accomplishments and contributions in the water works industry and also outstanding service to the association entitles that individual to special recognition. Cathcart has served as co-chairman of the association’s Legislative Advisory Committee for a number of years. Most recently, he played a key role in discussions surrounding current and future water allocation as a member of the Massachusetts Sustainable Water Management Initiative’s Policy Committee. Cathcart has been a strong advocate for looking at water resource issues in a more integrated way.

Durkee receives CHST certification

Michael Durkee has completed all requirements for certification as a Construction Health and Safety Technician. This certification is awarded to individuals who meet the experience and/or education requirements to include passing a four-hour examination. The examination covers safety and health inspections, general safety training, safety and health record keeping, hazard communication compliance and administration, OSHA and other inspections.

The Construction Health and Safety Technician provides an important supporting effort at the job site level to aid in the protection of workers, the public, property and the environment. The CHST functions with specifically designed and managed programs aimed at compliance with the safety principles and federal, state and local regulations.

Durkee is currently employed at Zampell Refractories, Inc., 3 Stanley Tucker Drive, Newburyport, where he has been an employee for 25 years.

Chamber announces ribbon cuttings

The Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry is celebrating two grand openings and ribbon cuttings this week.

The Collection of Newburyport invites the public to its officially opening tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Collection is a lifestyle store for today’s busy woman and offers fashion-forward footwear, resort basics and accessories. It is located at 1 Merrimac Landing, Unit 4, across from Not Your Average Joe’s.
