Health Beat: Free cancer screenings in Port

Colden & Seymour Ear Nose Throat & Allergy will hold several oral, head and neck cancer screenings next month.

Held during the annual screening week, these free screenings will be offered at the Newburyport Medical Center, 1 Wallace Bashaw Jr. Way, Suite 3002.

Appointments are available Tuesday, April 16: 4 to 6 p.m. with Dr. Elizabeth Davis; Wednesday, April 17: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Daryl Colden, and Thursday, April 18: 8 a.m. to noon with Dr. Peter Seymour.

Free yoga classes with donation

Anne Rundle, the owner of Merrimac’s new yoga studio, Asteya Yoga, is giving back to the community as she teaches.

Asteya Yoga promotes affordable classes, and on the last Saturday of the month, in lieu of paying for classes, participants may make a donation to the charity of the month.

On Saturday, the studio will be collecting donations for the Our Neighbors’ Table food pantry during the 7 a.m. Power Yoga and 8:30 a.m. Gentle flow Yoga sessions. On April 27, classes will be free with a donation to the Fresh Air Fund; on May 25, the recipient will be Opportunity Works in Newburyport.

Asteya Yoga is located at 9 School St., Merrimac.

Dyslexia seminar set for next month

If you or your child have difficulties with reading, decoding, phonemic awareness, writing, spelling, math or attention deficits, dyslexia could be the cause.

New England Dyslexia Solutions is holding a free informational seminar on Thursday, April 4 , that will offer in-depth understanding of what dyslexia is, signs to look for and solutions that help. The seminar will begin at 1 p.m. in Amesbury at Boston North Technology Park on Haverhill Road, building A, conference room, 110.
