Gentle Voices for First Religious sermon

Congregation member Bettina Gellinek Turner, founder and director of the all-female, hospice/bedside singing collaborative Gentle Voices, will present a sermon titled “Singing at the End of Life” on Sunday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. at First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.

Members of the volunteer Gentle Voices group make visits at bedside to sing for individuals who are ill or dying. They visit patients in nursing homes, hospice facilities or at home in small ensembles of two or three singers at a time. Their intent is to provide comfort, connection and joy. Turner will speak about the many rewards and joys of the work and members of Gentle Voices will participate in the service. ‘True Community’ at Rock Church Amesbury

Rock Church Amesbury, 146 Main St.,is introducing a new Sunday morning series titled “True Community.” Throughout the Bible, from Adam and Eve through the early church, it seems clear that people were meant to live in community. But pastor Steve Murray says many people tend to be living lives in isolation. The series is intended to explore the issue and create a stronger sense of community. Rock Church offers a contemporary worship service on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. followed by a more traditional service at 11 a.m. For more, visit www.rock-church.org.

Gospel of John for Beginners

Gospel of John for Beginners, a six-week evening course taught by Pastor Dennis Gill of Hope Community Church, will meet Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hope Church on Hale Street in Newburyport starting April 24. The class examines the basic message of the entire Bible, using the Book of John as foundation. It will address such topics as how to know for certain that the Bible is true and how to have a dynamic relationship with God. The class is taught in a discussion format and questions are welcome.
