Join Candlelight Chorale for holidays

Singers are invited to take part in the Candlelight Chorale of the First Religious Society’s 88th annual Christmas Candlelight Service.

Rehearsals will be held tomorrow; Nov. 8 and 22; and Dec. 6, 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. A dress rehearsal will take place Saturday, Dec. 21, and the concert will be presented Sunday, Dec. 22.

This year’s performance will include three choirs, an organ and a brass quintet, led by music director Jay Lane. The church is located at 26 Pleasant St. in Newburyport.

Artists group puts on ‘A Holiday Show’

The Band of Brushes is presenting “A Holiday Show,” starting tomorrow at Carry Out Cafe in Newburyport.

Members of the group share a love of nature and plein air painting in oil, watercolor, pastel and acrylic. Participating artists include Dorothy Aham, Fran Butsavich and Mary Ann Varoski of Newbury; Christine Molitor Johnson of Amesbury; and Anika Savage of Newburyport.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the cafe, 155 State St. The show runs through Dec. 31.

Jazz Vespers at First Religious Society

The theme of giving thanks will be highlighted in a Jazz Vespers Service on Wednesday at the First Religious Society in Newburyport.

Carolyn Dawson will give readings, and the house band of Lark Madden, Tomas Havrda, Susan Creamer and Andy Brewster will perform.

The service, which starts at 8 p.m., celebrates the inspiration of jazz, blues and swing music. Admission is free, and the church is located at 26 Pleasant St.

Artists exhibit ‘New Works’ in Byfield

“New Works” by Karen Jones and Priscilla Serafin will be on display tomorrow through Dec. 20 at The Governor’s Academy.

A reception with the artists is set for tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit is in The Wilkie Center for the Performing Arts, 1 Elm St., Byfield.
